- Choose one typeface from each column (a serif and a sans-serif)
- Research each typeface thoroughly, (history, designer, significance)
- print out the following letters from both the upper and lower case alphabet
for each typeface at 2 inches tall (approximately 150 pts.)

- Carefully trace each letter using pencil and tracing or layout paper paying close attention to thick and thin parts of the stroke, terminal endings, stress of rounded characters, x-height, shape of serifs, and connections
- Identify distinguishing characteristics for each typeface based upon your close analysis of letterform.
- Create an 11 x 17 inch B & W poster for each typeface
- Refer to the Typographic Variables list to aid you in your formation of type on your poster
- You should make use of additional weights (Bold, semi-bold, light, etc.) and postures (italics, back slant) of your typeface on your poster. You are not restricted to just the weight or posture that you traced.
