In Class Assignment:
Use the Data Merge function in InDesign to create 2 “merged” documents
- Business Cards
- Name Tags
Step one, quickly design your documents (this is just an exercise, I’m not looking for something fancy!)
Business cards should be set up 1 per page & designed to the correct trim size (3.5 x 2) WITH BLEED for commercial printing
Include the following information:
First, Last, email, phone, address, city, state, zip
Name Tags should be set up on an 8.5 x 11 paper with 9 tags per page, as if they are to be hand trimmed for an event
Include the following information:
First, Last, city, state
Step two, locate and save your data file as a (.csv) or tab-delimited (.txt) text file.
Use the data located here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ko5wz4d1u3ak7tp/Data%20List.xlsx?dl=0
CSV file: https://www.dropbox.com/s/4spqy2u2ccp03ng/Data%20List.csv?dl=0
Open the Data Merge Panel in InDesign: Window>Utilities>Data Merge
Step three: Using the drop down (from the top right corner of the panel), attach your data file.
Step four: add the appropriate data into your design.
Step five: Create your merged documents following the instructions from my demo.
