To create a spot color of the same hue as a chosen process color in Illustrator, follow the steps below. (It doesn’t have to be Easter time to do this 🙂
- sample the process color with the eyedropper tool
- make a swatch of that process color
- fill a rectangle with the swatch color
- duplicate the colored rectangle
- with that rectangle selected, open the Edit Colors window
- Edit>>Edit Colors>>Recolor Artwork>> Color Library box>>Color Books>>Pantone solid uncoated (select from the small icon under the word none)
- (depending on your version of illustrator you may need to select 1 Color Job from the Preset dropdown menu, THEN choose Pantone + Solid Uncoated from the Library Pop-up.)

- When you click OK, your new box should be a Pantone Spot color.
- Finally, compare the CMYK version of the color to the new Pantone Spot color version. If acceptable, make a spot color swatch of it.
