The Xspace

The Xspace is a unique room designed to present multiple video sequences simultaneously for an “immersive“ viewer/audience experience. The Xspace is closely associated with The Cube. They are both located on the first floor of the William Knox Holt Memorial Library and together they provide students and faculty with “Maker Space” opportunities to explore creative projects in a variety of media.

  • Locate the Recent Shows Pull Down menu
  • Open ARTS 081/ARTS 081.watch (Template) from the pull down menu>>recent shows

  • Once template is open, immediately save the file to your folder and give it a new name for your project
  • Open the Media Window if it is not already open
  • Import your video/media files to the project media library (in addition to your main video file, you may want to also include additional still images or other assets that might appear on other projectors) You should see these files appear in the Media Window.
  • Top Menu>>Media>>Refresh all Media
  • Power on the WatchOut monitor
  • If the Main Frame Server is not already on, power it on now.
  • Power on the Creston screen controller
  • Check for the Projector layout on second monitor (the WatchOut monitor) to fully appear
    • Each red rectangle corresponds to a projector location out in the main performance space.
  • Drag your video/media files to one of the red rectangles. It should now also appear in one of the layers on the Watchout timeline below.
  • Continue adding or duplicating your media files to the other projector rectangles. Should a red line appear over one of the already occupied timeline layers, it simply means that two media files now occupy the same layer. Drag one of them to another layer to make it go away.
    • Layers will allow you to separate or duplicate your video, apply different cropings, transitions, motion and timings
    • If you can see your videos in the projector rectangles then
  • Top Menu>> Stage>>Offline/Online
  • Live Update, off then back on
    • WatchOut Monitor should have progress bars under each red rectangle window that updates

AFTER your Project has been presented be sure to delete your project folder from the computer.
