In class:

Draw your first and last name in your favorite typeface. No looking at examples. Must be from a real typeface. Go from your memory only. What is it’s name.

Bring to class:

Pencil tracings of your name using both Garamond and Helvetica and your favorite typeface. 1st print out the alphabets for each typeface (both Helvetica and Garamond are below). Then use these letters to trace your name. Size majuscule letters at 150 pts tall (approximately 2 inches. Use tracing paper. The light table may also be helpful for this. Be precise and accurate with your tracing. Pay particular attention to subtitles of line weight, curvature, stroke endings, and angles. Make notes about characteristics that are specific to each typeface (at least five). These should be distinguishing enough that they would help you identify each one. To aid you in identifying these characteristics, you might compare Garamond with other serif typefaces and Helvetica with other sans-serif faces. Attach a list of these characteristics to each drawing.
