A colophon is another name for “production notes” which is a listing of the main materials, processes or techniques used to make the multi-piece design it is associated with. If that design piece is a book or booklet it is normally referred to as a “colophon”. If it is instead a magazine or pamphlet it is normally referred to as the “production notes”. By the same token, if it is a film or video this information is seen as the credits that role at the end of the show. For print publications, colophon is always in the back of a book and production notes are usually in the front of a magazine.
The actual information and manner in which it is worded may differ from piece to piece but it is pretty normal for a publishing company or design firm to have a house style that sets a consistent treatment for all publications created by them. So, for the University of the Pacific, Graphic Design program, production information should be presented in the following “house style”.
